Two Indian Women from Telangana Die in California Car Accident, Fundraisers Launched
December 29, 2025
Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana, two Indian women from Telangana, died in a car accident in California while returning from a weekend trip with friends. They came to the US three years ago for their master's degrees and were searching for jobs.
Their car plunged into a gorge near Alabama on Sunday. Both women died instantly. Other friends in the car were seriously injured.
Meghana’s father, Nageshwara Rao, runs a Mee-Seva centre. Bhavana’s father is the deputy sarpanch of Mulkanoor village in Telangana. A fundraiser has been started to bring Meghana's body back to India.
The fundraiser said, "Meghana Rani(Chikki) moved here from [Garla Khammam in India, Telangana] with dreams and a heart full of love. To those who knew her, she was a kind, vibrant soul who always put others first. Her sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. She was an Indian national, unmarried, and belonged to a lower-middle-class family from Garla village, Telangana, India."
It also requested support: "We humbly request your support during this extremely difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us give my Sister a dignified farewell and will mean more to us than words can express."
This is the second tragic loss for the Indian community in the US this week. Earlier, Telangana's Yashwanth Kumar Goshika, a 33-year-old Dallas resident, died in his sleep due to a health condition linked to sleep apnea. A separate fundraiser is raising money to bring his body back to India.
