Andhra Pradesh Forms New Task Force to Fight Infectious Diseases
December 29, 2025
The Andhra Pradesh government has created a State-level task force to fight infectious diseases. This move came after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu gave his directive. Health and Family Welfare Minister Satyakumar Yadav announced this. The task force is led by Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Veerapandian and has 24 members. These include national medical experts and officials from Veterinary, Panchayati Raj, Municipal Administration, and Agriculture departments. The team will make a full plan to control diseases like dengue, malaria, diarrhoea, tuberculosis, and leprosy. The plan will focus on strong prevention, quick responses to outbreaks, hospital readiness, and teamwork among departments. The task force will also enforce Central government guidelines and create Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). They will meet every three months to check disease trends, review actions taken, and suggest improvements. Key members include Dr. Himanshu Chauhan from the Central Surveillance Unit, Dr. George Varghese of Christian Medical College, Vellore, Dr. Sumit Roy of AIIMS Mangalagiri, and Dr. Jude Joseph from JMJC, Thrissur. Officials from secondary health care, Panchayati Raj, Municipal Administration, Agriculture Departments, the Union Health Ministry, and the World Health Organisation are also part of the panel. Mr. Yadav said, "The task force’s coordinated approach would ensure timely action, improve preparedness, and enhance the State’s overall capacity to prevent and control infectious disease outbreaks."
