The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained control of the Palakkad municipality for the third consecutive term by winning 25 of the 53 council seats. This comes despite the party's biggest internal feud yet. In the outgoing council, BJP had 28 seats, and in 2015, it first gained power with 24 seats. The BJP fell short of a clear majority by two seats but will continue to rule as UDF secured only 17 seats and LDF managed 8. There are three independent winners, including one UDF rebel. Any alliance between UDF and LDF to oust BJP is unlikely due to their rivalry. BJP won seats in Ayyapuram West, Kalpathy East, Thonippalayam, Kumarapuram, Mattumantha, Murukani, Puthur South, Puthur North, Sekharipuram, Ayyapuram East, Manappullikkavu, Koppam, Sulthanpetta, Mankavu, Kaikuthuparamba, Pattikkara, Vadakkanthara East, Selvapalayam, Kunnathurmedu South, Sreeramapalayam, Melamuri, Meparamba, Karnaginagar West, Vadakkanthara, and Jainamedu wards. UDF won Olavakode Central, Kalpathy, Kunnumpuram, Kallepulli North, Kallepulli South, Narikuthi, Kunnathurmedu North, Chierakkadu, Kenathuparamba, Poolakkad, Vennakkara South, Vennakkara Central, Thirunellayi East, Thirunellayi West, Kallikkadu, Kottamaidanam, and Nurani wards. Independents won Vithunni, Pallipuram, and Olavakode South wards. BJP State treasurer E. Krishnadas defeated UDF candidate Vinod Pattikkara by 415 votes in Pattikkara ward. Mr. Krishnadas, former BJP Palakkad district president and vice chairperson of the outgoing council, is seen as a strong candidate for municipal chairperson. BJP district secretary P. Smithesh also won in Murukani ward, beating Congress leader K. Bhavadas by 87 votes. Mr. Bhavadas had won as a UDF rebel in 2020. Mr. Smithesh is a key BJP leader.
