Rajasthan Police seized 150 kg of ammonium nitrate, along with 200 cartridges and six bundles of safety fuse wire, from a car on New Year’s Eve in Tonk district. Two men, Surendra Patwa (48) and Surendra Mochi (33), were arrested while transporting the explosive material. Both are from Karwar, Bundi district. The District Special Team (DST) stopped the car near Chironj village on National Highway-52 after it tried to evade police. The explosives were hidden in four urea sacks. Mrityunjay Mishra, Tonk Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the seized material could have been used for illegal mining blasts or a terror attack. DST in-charge Om Prakash Chaudhary reported that the accused became nervous and attempted to escape when questioned. Despite their claim of carrying fertiliser for farming, the presence of cartridges and fuse wire revealed the intent for illegal use. Investigation is ongoing to find the source, destination, and possible links. Ammonium nitrate is a sensitive chemical often used in stone quarrying but can cause large-scale destruction. This chemical was also involved in the tragic Red Fort car explosion in Delhi in November, which killed 15 people and injured over 20.
