The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized medicines worth ₹1.39 crore across 244 cases in 2025, its annual report shows. The agency detected 84 sub-standard drugs circulating in the market. DCA conducted 28,816 inspections across Telangana, finding violations in 5,278 cases. This is a slight rise over 2024, when 25,253 inspections led to 4,102 violations. Most seizures were for misleading advertisements with 140 cases. Other major violations included 38 cases of quacks and unauthorized medical practitioners selling drugs, and 36 involving unlicensed medical shops or illegal stocking. Additional cases included nine for drugs illegally sold as food products, six for spurious drug rackets, four for unlicensed drug manufacturing, and two for price violations. Nine cases involved expired drugs, physician samples, and related offences. DCA tested 4,801 drug samples in 2025, finding 84 Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs. Legal action is underway against these manufacturers under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. In comparison, 3,902 samples tested in 2024 yielded 130 NSQ drugs. A historic step in 2025: Four dealers were arrested for spurious drug offences — a first for DCA Telangana — sending a strong message against fake medicines. A notable operation uncovered a psychotropic drug racket in Hyderabad. Officials seized 1.2 lakh Alprazolam tablets worth ₹4.32 lakh from an unlicensed home in Moosarambagh. This shows DCA’s growing resolve to curb drug violations and protect public health.
