On December 31, 2025, members of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) protested against the Salem Yarn Colouring Park (SYCP) project at Jagir Ammapalayam. Farmers claimed the project, planned over 187 acres, was actually a dyeing park that would pollute water sources in more than 40 villages. They said, "If implemented, the project would contaminate groundwater, affecting drinking water and water for farming and daily use." The farmers blamed the district administration for not seeking local consent before proposing the project. They called the State government and district administration's handling "unacceptable". Pointing to past groundwater pollution from dyeing units in Tiruppur, Perundurai, and Pallipalayam, they demanded the project be relocated.
