Kerala Seeks 200 MW Daily Power from Feb to May 2026 to Meet Summer Surge
December 31, 2025
Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is preparing for higher electricity demand in summer 2026. It has asked power generators to supply 200 MW daily from February through May 15. This extra power is needed mainly during peak hours, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. KSEB floated a request for proposal (RfP) on Tuesday. All power producers with a valid trade licence can bid via the Centre’s Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price (DEEP) portal. Technical bids and initial offers must be submitted by January 9. The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission had earlier highlighted KSEB’s lapses in revealing financial details of short-term power purchases. Last summer, Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty urged consumers to cut evening use by using lower day-time energy charges. As of Tuesday, KSEB’s hydel reservoirs are 74% full, the highest level since 2021, with Idukki reservoir at 73%. This water storage will help manage electricity supply during peak summer months.
