Amit Shah Opens ₹111 Crore Guwahati Police HQ & 2,000 CCTV Network
December 29, 2025
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated two major projects in Guwahati on Monday, December 29, 2025. The first is a permanent 10-storey building for the Guwahati Police Commissionerate built at a cost of ₹111 crore. Located in the Khanapara area, this new headquarters can seat 400 officers and includes a library and archive. The second is an advanced Intelligence City Surveillance System (ICSS) with 2,000 CCTV cameras and 60 citizen safety alert devices, developed at ₹181 crore. This system has an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to enhance city security.
The new Police Commissionerate building is eco-friendly, featuring rainwater harvesting, water and sewage treatment plants, and solar panels generating 42.3 KW of electricity. The project began in January 2023 when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone. Initially budgeted at ₹95 crore, costs rose to ₹111 crore.
At the event, Mr. Shah also launched 39 mobile forensic vans for Assam Police and inaugurated an exhibition by the state CID explaining new criminal laws, called the 'Exhibition on Naveen Nyaya Sanhita.' This aims to inform the public about legal changes.
Mr. Shah urged Assamese voters ahead of the March-April 2026 Assembly elections to choose a government that will stop infiltration and boost development. He said, "In elections in March-April next year, elect a government that doesn’t allow infiltration and works for the progress of Assam." He praised BJP's work in Assam over the past decade and the Modi government's 11 years at the Centre, promising to identify and send back infiltrators if given another term. He criticized Congress for encouraging infiltration for votes, which he said threatened Assam’s identity.
Mr. Shah added that the BJP government is focusing on a cultural and economic revival of Assam. He also inaugurated the new 5,000-seat Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir auditorium during the ceremony.
