Supreme Court Stays Kuldeep Sengar's Bail, Survivor Welcomes Justice
December 29, 2025
The Supreme Court on Monday, December 29, 2025, stayed the Delhi High Court order suspending Kuldeep Sengar's life sentence and granting him bail in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The decision came after a plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which challenged the high court's ruling.
The Court also issued a notice to Sengar, asking him to submit his response.
Kuldeep Sengar, a former Unnao legislator, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape case that shocked the nation.
Speaking to PTI from Delhi, the survivor said, "I am very happy with this decision. I have got justice from the Supreme Court. I have been raising my voice for justice from the very beginning."
She added, "I do not make any allegations against any court. I have faith in all courts, but the Supreme Court has given me justice and will continue to do so."
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had suspended Sengar’s life sentence and granted him bail while hearing his appeal. The Supreme Court’s intervention puts a hold on this decision, upholding the original conviction for now.
This case had reignited strong debates about crimes against women and the responsibility of political leaders. The Supreme Court’s stay is seen as a step to ensure strict justice.
