Cyberabad Traffic Police Book 377 Drunk Driving Cases Over Weekend Crackdown

The Cyberabad traffic police arrested 377 people for drunk driving during a special drive on December 26 and 27. This was part of tight checks to stop driving under the influence of alcohol. Miyapur had the highest number with 48 cases. Shadnagar followed with 42, while Shamshabad and Chevella reported 35 cases each. Jeedimetla had 13 cases, among the fewest. KPHB and RC Puram recorded 15 cases each, and Kukatpally had no cases at all.
The police said most offenders rode two-wheelers, totaling 300 cases. Four-wheelers were involved in 58 cases. There were 17 cases with three-wheelers and 2 with heavy vehicle drivers.
Based on blood alcohol concentration (BAC) tests, 317 offenders had BAC between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 39 had BAC ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml. Twenty-one drivers showed dangerously high BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All will face court proceedings.
Officials warned that anyone caught drunk driving and causing fatal accidents will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This law covers culpable homicide not amounting to murder, with punishment up to 10 years in jail and a fine.
In related news, from December 22 to 27, courts handled 55 drunk driving cases. One offender received both jail time and a fine. Five were fined and required to do social service. The remaining 49 paid fines only, according to Cyberabad traffic police.
