Commuters Demand Expanded MMTS Train Services on Key South Central Railway Routes
December 27, 2025
South Central Railway (SCR) has improved MMTS suburban train timings during peak hours in recent months. Now, commuters want SCR to add more trains and routes. Passenger groups ask for extra services on the Secunderabad/Umdanagar-Medchal line to make daily travel easier and connect better with long-distance trains. Frequent traveller Murali said, "We need early morning services from Medchal to Falaknuma and back to help passengers catch the Vande Bharat Express and a Bolarum-Umdanagar service for easy links to Tungabhadra Express and AP Sampark Kranti Express." He also wants services between Medchal-Lingampalli and Bolarum-Hyderabad for employees and business travellers, along with a Medchal-Falaknuma train for South Hyderabad. Other proposed new routes include Medchal-Cherlapalli via R.K. Nagar, Secunderabad-Cherlapalli via Malkajgiri, and R.C. Puram-Cherlapalli via Neredmet. These would run in the morning, afternoons, and evenings to connect to the new terminal. Commuters agree to boost connections from Cherlapalli to Hyderabad, Umdanagar, R.C. Puram/Lingampalli, and add off-peak services to Lingampalli and Medchal. G. Rakesh, another commuter, suggests cutting peak hour gaps to 15-20 minutes, extending Lingampalli trains to R.C. Puram and Patancheru in evenings, and running more trains to Ghatkesar via Cherlapalli. He also proposes a new platform at Tellapur near the ORR Kollur exit. Bharadwaj, a Railway Users Committee member, said, "MMTS schedules and fares should be displayed prominently at major stations, with frequent announcements." He also wants combined first-class and ladies sections, daily checks, fines on ticketless travellers, free MMTS travel for 90 minutes after long-distance train arrivals, and a new dedicated platform at Secunderabad for smooth boarding where trains stop in the middle. Noor Ahmed Ali, president of Train Travellers Association, states that three new MMTS halt stations—Loyola College, Anandbagh, and Prashanthnagar near Moula Ali quarters—will open soon. He added, "We hope SCR leadership continues proactive efforts to improve amenities, add stoppages for express trains, and ensure safe, punctual, and comfortable travel."
