Dubai is all set for one of the world’s busiest New Year’s Eve parties. Authorities have crafted a big transport and traffic plan to handle millions visiting event spots like Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa. The Dubai Metro and Tram will run non-stop for 43 hours—from 5am on December 31, 2025, until 11:59pm on January 1, 2026—to help ease road pressure. Transport hubs like Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall will get extra services. Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, told Khaleej Times, "The authority is fully prepared to manage traffic and transport operations during the celebrations." He added this is in coordination with security committees and partners. Public transport use is rising. Over 2.5 million used it during the 2025 New Year, up from 2.29 million in 2024. The city will deploy 14,000 taxis, 18,000 limousines, and 1,300 buses to meet demand. Road closures will start at 4pm on December 31 and expand till 11pm in key areas like Al Asayel Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard to control crowds and prevent jams. Traffic signals will be centrally controlled, and digital signs will show real-time updates. Motorists are urged to avoid Downtown Dubai and use public transport. Pedestrian safety will be stepped up near event entrances. A Unified Control Centre will coordinate efforts between the RTA, Dubai Police, Civil Defence, and Ambulance Services. They will use smart tech and big data to track traffic flows and manage the situation swiftly. Over 5,500 RTA staff will be on duty, with 10 control centres and 26 traffic diversion vehicles active. Around Downtown Dubai, there will be 20,000 parking spots near Burj Khalifa, plus 8,000 more at Metro stations. Overflow lots will be available at places like Al Wasl Club. Residents and visitors are asked to follow official advice, use public transport, and plan for extra travel time as Dubai welcomes 2026 with a massive, well-organized New Year’s Eve blast.
