A local court in Sambhal has ordered an FIR against a former station house officer and 12 other police personnel. The court found they falsely said a man was arrested after an encounter in a robbery case. The twist? The man was in jail the whole time. The case began when ₹1 lakh was robbed on April 25, 2022, near Bahjoi police station. Police registered the FIR the same day. On July 7, 2022, police claimed to have arrested Omveer and two others after an encounter, recovering 19 motorcycles and the stolen money. But Omveer said he was locked inside Budaun jail from April 11 to May 12, 2022, making it impossible for him to commit the crime on April 25. Despite this, police charged him and jailed him for the robbery. On December 24, Chandausi Chief Judicial Magistrate Vibhanshu Sudhir directed an FIR within three days against the accused officers including former SHO Pankaj Lavania and Crime Inspector Rahul Chauhan, along with others. The court gave relief to the then circle officer Gopal Singh. Omveer said he had reported the fake encounter to senior police officers before but no action was taken. He welcomed the court's order as a relief. Bahjoi Circle Officer Pradeep Kumar Singh told PTIBhasha they have not yet received the court order and only heard about it from the media. Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar said police will not register an FIR and plan to challenge the court's decision. The drama continues as the police and courts clash over this alleged fake encounter in Sambhal.
