December 26, 2025
In Rajbari, Bangladesh, 29-year-old Amrit Mandal, a Hindu minority member, was lynched late Wednesday during an extortion attempt. Mandal, also known as Samrat, led a gang called "Samrat Bahini" and was a listed criminal with multiple cases, including murder. Officials said Mandal used to run "terrorist activities and extortion" by intimidating locals. He fled to India during the Awami League government but recently returned home.
Police and government sources stated the lynching was not a communal attack but arose from Mandal's violent extortion acts. He came to a house demanding money but, finding the owner absent, assaulted the owner's son. Locals mistook him for a robber and killed him around 11 pm in Hossaindanga Purantan Bazar, Pangsha upazila. Police Station in-charge Sheikh Moinul Islam confirmed Mandal's death and highlighted his arrest warrants for serious crimes. The government said, "The deceased is a top terrorist and arrived in the area to demand extortion and lost his life at one point in a clash with the angry local crowd."
