The village elders of Gazipur in Rajasthan's Jalore district have withdrawn the ban on women using smartphones. This decision was made on December 25, 2025, following opposition from several places. The ban was first decided at a December 21 meeting of the Chaudhary community in Sundhamata Patti, affecting daughters and daughters-in-law from 15 villages. The ban originally did not allow smartphone use by women outside the home, only permitting keypad phones for calls. Elder Himmataram said schoolgirls could use phones for studies but only inside their homes. Natharam Chaudhary explained the ban was due to concerns that children wasted time watching videos, harming their brain and eyesight. He added, “Cases of cyber fraud are occurring daily, and women and girls are facing exploitation.” The ban was meant as a one-month trial starting January 26 but was misunderstood and faced backlash. Now, the elders have unanimously agreed to withdraw the ban, leaving the smartphone use decision open.
