Three people, including two women, died after their car crashed into a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus near Vettavalam village on the Chittoor-Cuddalore Highway, close to Tiruvannamalai. Police named the deceased as S. Kalaivanan (60), B. Pounnu Ammal (70), Kanagavalli (36), and V. Govindaraj (42), all relatives from Vengaikaal village. They were taking Pounnu Ammal, who was ill, to a hospital in Villupuram. Kalaivanan, the car driver, lost control and hit the oncoming bus traveling from Villupuram to Bengaluru with about 35 passengers. Kanagavalli died at the scene. The other three in the car were injured and taken to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai. Pounnu Ammal and Kalaivanan later died from their injuries. All the bus passengers and crew were unharmed. The bus driver fled and is still missing. Vettavalam police have registered a case. Bodies were sent for postmortem, and the damaged car was cleared to restore traffic. An investigation is ongoing.
