Exports of Narsapuram crochet lace products have crossed ₹150 crore this fiscal year up to December. This marks a strong recovery after Covid-19 impacted the craft. Around 15,000 artisans, mostly women, work on the craft in 19 mandals of West Godavari and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts, Andhra Pradesh. Narsapuram Crochet Lace received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in March. K. N. Tulasi Rao, Convener of South Region Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), Ministry of Textiles, said, "The exports of Narsapuram crochet lace, crafted by the artisans of our region, have crossed ₹150 crore by the end of December. Europe, the USA, France and the Middle East remain the major importers of the crochet lace products from Narsapuram. The exports are including direct and indirect exports." Mr. Rao, who is also ILTC (International Lace Trade Centre, Narsapuram) Convener and a leading exporter, added, "The Geographical Indication tag, exhibitions, design and development being done in the International Lace Trade Centre (ILTC-Narsapuram), quality of products compared to crochet lace products of Panipat and Meerut are a few driving forces contributing for diversification of the craft and explore international market." The second Handicrafts Expo held at ILTC concluded on December 24, attracting over 40 Indian buyers who indirectly export the products globally. They explored market potential and procured products directly from artisans. The exhibition featured 60 stalls showcasing handicrafts from South and North India, organized by EPCH.
