On December 23, 2025, Karnataka police conducted surprise checks at Bengaluru Central Prison. The team, led by S.J. Jakati and other officers, seized 3 keypad phones, 1 Android phone, 1 SIM card, a charger, earbuds, and an earphone from inmates during the raid. Cases were filed under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022, and other applicable laws at Parappana Agrahara Police Station against those smuggling and using banned items inside the prison. Since November 11, 2025, 16 FIRs have been registered in total. Officials seized 109 mobile phones, 24 chargers, 88 SIM cards, 18 earphones and earbuds, ₹64,880 in cash, 18 sharp objects, along with cigarettes and tobacco packs—items banned inside prisons. These moves are part of the Prison Reforms Special Inspection Drive launched by Alok Kumar, Director-General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Karnataka. Authorities confirmed that surprise inspections will continue to crack down on illegal activities and to strengthen discipline within prisons.
