On December 24, 2025, the 2017 Unnao rape survivor appealed to national leaders to revoke bail granted to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Sengar, who is serving a life term, had his sentence suspended by the Delhi High Court a day earlier. The survivor met Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at their residence, urging, "I want to request all the leaders to stop his bail. If in five years, he can be given bail, what hope do women in the country have." She also said she sought meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. On December 23 evening, the survivor and her family faced rough treatment by Delhi police during protests near India Gate. A viral video shows her being dragged and forcibly placed inside a CRPF vehicle as she screamed to address the press. Her mother said they were stopped again on December 24 while trying to meet their lawyer. She alleged CRPF tried to prevent the meeting, but later a senior officer allowed it. She described the bail as proof that “justice for the poor in India continues to be a distant dream” and warned, "If Sengar steps out of the jail, he will kill all of us, my husband is already dead." After meeting their lawyer, the survivor and her family requested Rahul Gandhi’s help for a senior Supreme Court lawyer and relocation to a Congress-ruled state for safety. Her husband also sought Gandhi’s help for better employment. Rahul and Sonia Gandhi have agreed to support their fight and survival. Rahul Gandhi posted on platform X, condemning the police's treatment of the survivor and saying: "Is her 'fault' that she has the courage to raise her voice for justice? The fact that the perpetrator has been granted bail is extremely disappointing and shameful — especially when the survivor is being repeatedly harassed, and is living under the shadow of fear. Bail for rapists, and treating survivors like criminals — what kind of justice is this? We are not just becoming a dead economy — with such inhuman incidents, we are also turning into a dead society. In a democracy, raising a voice of dissent is a right, and suppressing it is a crime. The survivor deserves respect, safety and justice — not helplessness, fear and injustice."
