Maharashtra Waqf Tribunal Extends UMEED Portal Deadline by Six Months
December 24, 2025
The Maharashtra State Waqf Tribunal in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has granted a six-month extension for uploading Waqf property data on the UMEED portal. The extension was given on December 24, 2025, after the deadline expired on December 5. UMEED is the Centre’s system for managing Waqf properties digitally. Waqf properties include land, buildings, and money given for religious or charitable purposes by Muslims. The Maharashtra State Board of Waqf said repeated emails and WhatsApp messages to the UMEED support team failed to fix technical problems. Maharashtra has around 36,000 registered Waqf institutions and about 75,000 Waqf properties. Out of these, only 50,000 properties have been uploaded so far. The Tribunal, led by District Judge Adil Khan, ordered that the six-month extension will begin only after the UMEED portal works fully and without any glitches 24/7. Central officials must fix all defects on the portal within 10 days. The portal should only be made live after these problems are fixed. The Tribunal also stopped authorities from taking any negative action against Waqf trustees under the UMEED Act during this time. It further said if technical defects continue, more time must be granted to cover the downtime. The Federation of Maharashtra Muslims welcomed the decision. Shaikh Mujeeb, an office-bearer, urged Waqf trustees to use this extended time to complete their data uploads once the portal works properly.
