Telangana Shivers Through Coldest Winter in Years, Night Temps Drop to 7°C
December 24, 2025
Telangana is going through one of its coldest winters in recent years, with night temperatures dropping to as low as 7°C across many areas, including the twin cities, according to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS). Senior weather consultant Y.V. Rama Rao explained, "This year, winter set in early right from November and the cold has been relentless. This could be due to the dominance of dry northern winds over the usual easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, which typically bring warmth and moisture. With clear skies and no cloud cover, the cold has spread beyond isolated pockets to most regions." Night temperatures are between 7°C and 12°C in many places, lower than the normal 12°C to 16°C. Some regions like Sangareddy, Warangal, Vikarabad, Adilabad, and Kumuram Bheem have even recorded between 6°C and 9°C. The capital region sees slightly higher readings, from 8°C to 12°C at night. Daytime temperatures remain normal, roughly 28°C to 31°C in the twin cities and 30°C to 33°C in other districts. Relief is expected soon, with temperatures likely to rise by 1-2 degrees after December 27. Night temperatures might increase to 11°C to 14°C in the capital region and 8°C to 13°C in districts. Mr. Rama Rao adds, "These conditions are likely to continue until January, and there is no indication that temperatures will dip again before the winter season ends in mid-February." The coldest temperature recorded recently was 7°C at Sirpur in Kumuram Bheem district. The University of Hyderabad reported 9.3°C at Rangareddy district. Telangana residents are bracing the chill as the state endures this chilly spell.
