Karnataka Govt Denies KSCA Permission to Host Vijay Hazare Trophy Match at Chinnaswamy Stadium
December 23, 2025
The Karnataka government has refused permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold a Vijay Hazare Trophy match on December 24 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh announced the decision on December 23. He said, "Following the stampede during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in June, that killed 11 persons, Justice Michael D’Cunha had made some recommendations. The police had also made some recommendations and put down a list of 17 corrective measures. Since none of them have been implemented, permission is denied." KSCA had requested to hold the match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh at the stadium, even without any audience. Notably, Virat Kohli, the star player of RCB, was expected to play for Delhi. Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara formed a six-member committee led by Greater Bengaluru Authority Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao to inspect the stadium and submit a report. The inspection took place on December 22 afternoon, and the report was submitted late that night. Based on these reports, the government decided on the morning of December 23 not to allow the match at the stadium, sources said.
