Hyderabad police arrested Juliana Victor Nabitaka, a 27-year-old woman from Uganda, for staying illegally in India and suspected drug trafficking. Juliana was caught within Tolichowki police limits by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) based on credible information. She arrived in India on February 12, 2024, on a tourist visa through Mumbai. Juliana travelled across cities like Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Police said she connected with foreign drug peddlers and got involved in drug trafficking in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Her visa expired on January 18, 2025, but she stayed past its expiry without valid documents. During questioning, Juliana admitted she did not have a valid visa yet continued living in India illegally. Her passport is valid until October 31, 2033. Following her arrest, Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing started deportation proceedings with help from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office. An exit permit was issued, and she was blacklisted from re-entering India. She was deported to Uganda on December 21 from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport under police escort. Officials said, "the action was taken to prevent her from indulging in activities considered detrimental to national security." The police team was led by an inspector from H-NEW. Authorities also urged the public to stay alert as the number of foreign nationals overstaying visas and linking to drug cases is rising. Parents were advised to watch their children, and citizens were asked to report any drug-related information to help keep Hyderabad drug-free.
