New Foot Overbridge to Ease Madhya Kailash Junction Traffic Woes
December 22, 2025
The Highways Department will build a new foot overbridge (FOB) at the busy Madhya Kailash junction in Adyar. The plan was made when the flyover proposal was drawn. An earlier FOB near the junction was removed for flyover construction. The new pedestrian bridge will be 127 meters long and 5.5 meters wide. IIT Madras experts are currently checking the design. The junction sees about 1,510 pedestrians every hour during rush hour, totaling over 10,000 daily. Many find crossing the road tough due to heavy traffic on both major roads. Surendra, a frequent traveler, said, "People find it very difficult to cross the road since traffic is quite heavy on both the arterial roads. If the traffic police are present, they stop the vehicles to allow the people to cross the road. Otherwise, we are at the mercy of motorists." The FOB will connect locals near KV CLRI School to the Kasturibai Nagar MRTS station. It will also link bus stops near Madhya Kailash temple on Rajiv Gandhi Salai and the Regional Labour Institute on Sardar Patel Road. All three entrances and exits will have escalators and elevators for convenience. An official confirmed they have asked the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority for permission to link the FOB to the MRTS station.
