BDA Opens New Loop at Hebbal Flyover to Smooth Bengaluru Traffic
December 21, 2025
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has opened a new loop for vehicles at the Hebbal flyover on a trial basis from Saturday night. This step comes after finishing construction work aimed at reducing traffic jams at this busy junction.
Initially, the project was set to be done by November 30 as ordered by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Rain delayed the work, but BDA officials say they completed the loop before the extended deadline of January 1.
With this new route, the Hebbal flyover now has dedicated lanes for different traffic flows. A separate loop for vehicles from Nagawara towards Mekhri Circle had been opened a few months ago by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The latest loop will help commuters coming from northern areas like Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakara Nagar head straight to Mekhri Circle. It will also ease travel for passengers returning from the airport.
Some earlier worries were about traffic jams near Mekhri Circle, especially towards Jayamahal Road. But officials expect the new loop to reduce overall travel time.
Before this, traffic police manually controlled signals on the flyover, switching between vehicles from the Airport Expressway and those from Jakkur and Sahakar Nagar. Now, the added loop separates these two streams into different lanes and removes the need for that manual signal, cutting down travel time even more.
