The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) exposed major irregularities at seven private eye hospitals in Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district. Surprise inspections on December 19 revealed no qualified ophthalmologists working in these centres. Officials found that licences had been obtained by listing qualified doctors' names, but technicians ran the hospitals instead. These technicians prescribed medicines and tests beyond their skills, and even performed surgical procedures without a qualified doctor present. The ophthalmologists named on the licences were working elsewhere in cities like Hyderabad. Serious violations were reported at Sri Venkateswara Eye Hospital and Shalini Eye Hospital. Two individuals, Dr. M. Bharat Bhushan and Dr. K. Venkateswarlu, falsely claimed MS (Ophthalmology) degrees but held only MBBS qualifications. They projected themselves as specialists while technicians mainly ran their hospitals. Komala Medical and General Store also raised concerns. A. Koteshwar Rao, without medical qualifications, operated a first aid centre with beds and administered antibiotics and steroid injections. The other inspected centres included Sri Mahalakshmi Eye Hospital, Annapurna Netralayam, Yashasvi Eye Hospital, Rafa Vision Care Center, and Shiva Sai Eye Hospital. TGMC plans to register criminal cases against those running these centres illegally. Notices have been sent to the ophthalmologists on the licences. Their MBBS licences may be suspended if they do not explain the violations. This action by TGMC aims to protect patients and stop fake medical practices in Telangana's private eye care sector.
