TGSPDCL Installs 100+ Pole-Mounted Transformers in Hyderabad to Save Space and Boost Safety
December 19, 2025
HYDERABAD: The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) has installed over 100 pole-mounted distribution transformers in Greater Hyderabad. This new system replaces traditional transformers that take up 30 to 35 square feet of space and require a week for installation. "The PMDT system allows installing transformers 6 to 9 feet high on slender 11-metre poles," said TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Md. Musharrf Faruqui.
All necessary equipment like HG fuse sets, distribution boxes, and AB switches are mounted on the same pole. This design keeps the area clean and safe. Installation now takes just one day, with maintenance done easily by one staff member using a bucket ladder.
Currently, transformers of 63 kVA, 100 kVA, and 160 kVA are installed on these poles. TGSPDCL plans to introduce shorter 9.5-metre poles to handle transport issues in narrow lanes. They are also exploring higher-capacity transformers under this system.
Transformers are being installed at 304 more locations across Hyderabad. Md. Musharrf Faruqui added that future underground cables will be easy to connect. This new method cuts space needs and makes transformer surroundings safer and neater.
