GBA Chief Orders E-Auction for Vijayanagar Shops, Boosts Bengaluru Maternity Hospitals
December 16, 2025
M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Tuesday ordered officials to allocate 79 shops at Vijayanagar palike bazaar via e-auction. He said the shops in the air-conditioned bazaar must be allotted as per rules with full transparency. Mr. Rao also called for strict actions against unauthorized commercial activities around the bazaar, and ordered the appointment of a dedicated Revenue Officer to monitor the area. He reviewed healthcare projects under the Brand Bengaluru initiative and noted that Srirampura Maternity Hospital is outdated. It currently has 30 beds and handles 4 to 6 deliveries daily, plus 200–300 out-patients. Mr. Rao directed that the old building be demolished and replaced by a new four-storey hospital with 50 beds. Work must start immediately. Similarly, Moodalapalya Maternity Hospital, which has 12 beds, will be upgraded to 30 beds, with work starting soon. At the MC Layout multi-speciality hospital in Govindarajanagar, officials were told to make the hospital fully functional and submit a report covering staff, doctors, equipment, and utilization. While inspecting the Indira Canteen near Deepanjali Nagar, Mr. Rao stressed cleanliness and urged BWSSB officials to fix sewage overflow at the site without delay.
