The Andhra Pradesh government is exploring ways to use the large buildings atop Rushikonda constructed during the YSRCP rule. Ministers Payyavula Keshav, Kandula Durgesh, and D.B.V. Swamy spoke on Tuesday after a sub-committee meeting reviewing options to benefit the public and generate income for the Tourism Department. The buildings, initially meant as the official residence of then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, have drawn mixed feedback. Tourism officials gathered 1,517 responses from the public and 44 from stakeholders. Most urged the government to fix what they called "mistakes of the previous regime" and turn the asset into something useful for all. Ideas included turning the palace into a hotel, resort, museum, art gallery, wellness center, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) facility, a science planetarium, or government offices. The ministers criticized the former government for replacing profitable resorts with this palace-like structure covering nearly 20,000 square metres. Maintaining it costs ₹25 lakh to ₹30 lakh monthly. Firms like Tata, IHCL, Atmosphere Core, and some foreign companies have submitted proposals. The sub-committee plans another meeting soon. Afterward, they will present two or three options to the Cabinet for a final decision, coordinated with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
