Indian-origin Jasmeet Singh has been charged in California for threatening to kill a Canadian man. The victim is believed to be a target of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a criminal group from India. He had relocated to Canada after helping Indian police arrest two suspected blackmailers. The FBI complaint, written by agent Brian Toy from the Sacramento office, says Singh called the victim multiple times with death threats. He sent the victim a photo of his car parked outside his Canadian home to prove he had access to his assets. Singh told the victim, "You are going to die in Canada." The victim's troubles started in India in 2022. He was blackmailed by a woman and her associate who threatened false rape allegations unless he paid $239,000 US. The victim did not pay and helped police arrest the blackmailers. Those blackmailers were charged in India in May 2024. Shortly after they were charged, the victim received several threats within two hours. Singh even mentioned the make and color of the victim's car, saying, "do you not roam around in a white Range Rover over there?" The victim reported the threats to Canadian police (RCMP) and said he feared he would be killed if he returned to India. The FBI launched the investigation after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) contacted them. Singh's actions tie back to the criminal network run by Lawrence Bishnoi from prison in India. This case highlights the cross-border crime risks involving the Bishnoi gang.
