On December 13, CPI(M) stated that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) still holds a strong presence in Kerala's Kannur district. K.K. Ragesh, CPI(M) district secretary, told the media that the LDF's success in district, municipal, and block panchayat elections shows its organisational strength. The LDF won uncontested in 10 local bodies, including Anthoor municipality and Panoor block panchayat. It increased its seats in the Kannur district panchayat by one, now holding 18 divisions. The front kept its position in municipalities and gained more seats in Iritty municipality. Although the UDF won at Taliparamba and Sreekandapuram municipalities, LDF also improved its seat numbers there. The LDF secured a majority in Iritty block panchayat and took control of Kadambur grama panchayat. In Muzhappilangad, the front went from a slim to a comfortable majority. Mr. Ragesh accused the UDF of working with communal and sectarian groups to defeat the Left. He pointed out that in places like Iritty municipality, Congress votes fell sharply. He said parties like BJP, SDPI, and Jamaat-e-Islami voted tactically against LDF, with support from UDF, to challenge the Left.
