At Gurmitkal, 23 girl students from a post-matric hostel run by the Backward Classes Welfare department fell ill with abdominal pain and vomiting after late-night food. Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar reported that four girls experienced acute abdominal pain and were taken to the District Hospital immediately. The other 19 were treated at the Gurmitkal Community Health Centre. Medical officers suspect the cause to be contaminated food or water. Samples of chicken, rice, soybean, tomato, and drinking water consumed by the students have been sent for testing. Following the incident, a show cause notice has been sent to the hostel warden Manjula by the Officer of Backward Classes Welfare department for explanations. All 23 students have since been discharged and returned to the hostel as per doctors' advice.
