Farmers Clash With Police Over Ethanol Factory in Rajasthan, Several Injured
December 11, 2025
Farmers clashed with police on December 10, 2025, during a protest against a new ethanol factory in Tibbi, Hanumangarh district, Rajasthan. The protest erupted near the factory under construction by a private firm costing ₹450 crore. Police used lathi charge and teargas to disperse the crowd during a large 'Mahapanchayat'.
Protesting farmers broke into the factory compound and damaged building materials. The unrest escalated as around 10 vehicles were burnt and three bulldozers were damaged. Several people were injured, including Congress MLA from Sangaria and State Youth Congress president Abhimanyu Poonia, who was taken for medical tests after receiving primary aid.
The farmers oppose the factory fearing air pollution and water contamination, which they say will harm local farming and the environment. The protest saw participation from political leaders like Sriganganagar MP Kuldeep Indora, former MLA Balwan Poonia, CPI(M) leader Mangej Choudhary, and several farmers’ representatives from Rajasthan and Punjab.
Authorities imposed prohibitory orders in Tibbi since November 18, and markets closed with internet services shut down during the protest.
Veteran Congress leader and ex-Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned police force against farmers, stating on X, “The Congress will continue to raise the farmers’ voice fearlessly,” and questioned the BJP government’s attitude towards farmers.
The farmers demand the ethanol plant be shifted to another location to protect their livelihoods and the environment.
