Kozhikode to Hold Local Body Elections on December 11 with 3,097 Polling Stations
December 11, 2025
Kozhikode is ready for the three-tier local body elections scheduled on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The district has set up 3,097 polling stations for voting. On December 10, candidates and supporters of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF), and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) engaged in silent campaigning. They contacted voters through phone and social media and visited homes in their wards. The LDF is confident of keeping its lead in Kozhikode Corporation, district panchayat, block, and grama panchayats. The UDF aims to win many seats from the Left this time. The NDA hopes to increase its seats, especially in Kozhikode Corporation.
Officials collected electronic voting machines (EVMs) and moved them to polling stations by Wednesday evening. Kozhikode has 26,82,682 voters, including 12,66,375 males, 14,16,275 females, and 32 transgender voters. A total of 6,328 candidates will contest the elections.
Polling will start with mock voting at 6 a.m. in the presence of candidates or their agents. Actual voting begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. For the three-tier panchayats, there will be three ballot units and one control unit. For the Corporation and municipalities, only one ballot unit will be used.
The district administration has set up a control room at the collectorate to ensure smooth elections and monitor the process. The control room is overseen by District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh, who is also the district electoral officer, along with election observer Joseph Thomas and Deputy Collector Gopika Udayan. Webcasting is installed at 166 polling booths. Presiding officers must upload polling details every hour.
