The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) launched a special inspection on Wednesday to catch illegal sales of prescription medicines across the State. The focus was on Schedule H and Schedule H1 drugs, including habit-forming substances, abortion kits, and antibiotics that need a valid doctor’s prescription. During the statewide drive, officials found multiple violations in 180 retail medical shops. These included selling Schedule H and H1 medicines without prescriptions, stocking expired drugs, and poor record-keeping like missing prescription registers, sales bills, and purchase bills. Inspections also revealed irregular handling of bill copies and selling prescription medicines without a registered pharmacist present. Authorities have issued show-cause notices to all 180 shops for these breaches.
