Kozhikode Gears Up With 5,000-Strong Security Force for Kerala Local Body Polls
December 10, 2025
Kozhikode district is set for high-security as it goes to polls on December 11, 2025, for the second phase of Kerala's local body elections. Police have deployed 5,000 personnel under Deputy Superintendents' supervision with help from the Rapid Action Force, a wing of the Central Reserve Police Force.
District Police Chief K.E. Baiju said, “We will employ 5,000 police personnel to ensure a peaceful polling. Review meetings were held with senior officers to assess the situation.” Strike squads and special patrol teams will stay alert at politically sensitive sites.
Areas around Nadapuram, Thamarassery, and Perambra are receiving extra attention following a vulnerability assessment. Panchayats with confirmed Maoist supporters will get enhanced security. These include Thottilpalam, Koorachundu Valayam, and Peruvannamuzhi, known for past Maoist activity.
Police will conduct regular patrols, monitor suspicious movement with plainclothes officers, and deploy videographers to record election activities in sensitive spots. On December 9, route marches showcased the strength of security forces.
A senior officer urged voters for “active cooperation to ensure compliance with safety regulations.” To combat misinformation, a special squad will track social media pages spreading false election news.
Kozhikode has 26.82 lakh voters: 12.66 lakh men, 14.16 lakh women, and 32 transgender persons. Olavanna panchayat holds the most voters at 56,110, while Kayanna has the fewest at 11,787.
