On December 31, 2025, Markapuram town saw its old district nameboards taken down and replaced with new boards. This change took place one day before Markapuram officially became a new district. The replacement ceremony happened with top officials present, including Minister for Social Welfare Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Collector in-charge P. Raja Babu, and Superintendent of Police in-charge V. Harshavardhan Raju. Several district MLAs also attended. Minister Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy said, "The government stood by its commitment in the formation of Markapuram district, thus meeting the aspirations of the people." Alongside the minister, A.P. Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satya and MLAs Kandula Narayana Reddy (Markapuram), M. Ashok Reddy (Giddalur), M. Ugra Narasimha Reddy (Kanigiri), and Yerragondapalem TDP in-charge G. Erixion Babu joined a press conference. They expressed gratitude to the State government for making the new district a reality. This event marks a key milestone as Markapuram prepares to function officially as a new district from January 1, 2026.
