KSRTC’s City Ride, known as Nagarakazhchakal, has become a hit in Thiruvananthapuram. This evening tour runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. every hour. Open-top double-decker buses take passengers on a scenic trip through the city. The rides start at East Fort and cover spots like Palayam, Museum, Kanakakkunnu, Vellayambalam, Kowdiar, Pattoor, Chakkai, the International Airport, BrahMos Aerospace, Shanghumughom, LuLu Mall, and more. The route sometimes changes due to traffic. On busy days, the Akkulam area might be skipped as per police orders. A crew member guides the journey, offering live commentary and historical facts about the landmarks. Passengers are warned about low-hanging tree branches and electric wires, yet some brushes with branches occur, raising safety concerns. During New Year, the Kanakakkunnu Palace is beautifully lit, drawing crowds. Nearby, CSI Mateer Memorial Church shines with thousands of stars. Traffic is slow here, but passengers get a festive experience. Along the airport stretch, travelers may even see planes taking off. The bus stops briefly for a clear view, though passengers are asked not to take photos, as airport rules require. Tinu Chithran, a crew member on the 9 p.m. ride on December 27, advised passengers to pre-book tickets as upper deck seats sell out fast. Tickets for the upper deck cost ₹200 and ₹100 for the lower deck. Bookings can be made up to one month in advance. Passengers get a WhatsApp message 15 minutes before departure with crew details and a bus tracking link. Each trip lasts about 90 minutes, with slight timing changes based on traffic. Two electric buses serve this popular city ride, and tickets are available online via the KSRTC Swift website.
