Rachakonda police booked over 300 motorists for drunk driving from December 22 to 28 during a special enforcement drive across the commissionerate. The traffic wing conducted wide checks and seized two-wheelers, cars, and auto rickshaws from offenders caught drunk. All offenders were booked and will face court proceedings. Most motorists had blood alcohol levels between 35 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml, while some had even higher levels. Police stressed that driving under alcohol seriously risks public safety and legal action will be strict. In the previous week, courts imposed fines totalling ₹2,07,500 on drunk driving offenders. The police also warned that accidents causing death due to drunk driving will lead to cases under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This law charges culpable homicide not amounting to murder, punishable by up to ten years in jail and fines.
