On December 29, 2025, Congress criticized the Rajasthan government, saying real estate projects will damage the Aravalli ecosystem. Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary and former Environment Minister, said the double-engine government’s actions go against the Forest Survey of India's advice. He wrote on X, "It is not just mining but real estate development that is being opened up by the double-engine sarkar in New Delhi-Jaipur against the recommendations of the Forest Survey of India." Congress opposes the new definition of the Aravalli hills, warning it will open the hills for mining, real estate, and other projects. The Supreme Court is investigating the issue and will hear the case on Monday, December 29, 2025. Earlier, the Court had set a uniform definition for the Aravalli hills and halted new mining leases in areas across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat until expert reports arrive. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change committee recommended defining "Aravalli Hill" as any landform in selected districts with a height of 100 metres above its surroundings. An "Aravalli Range" means two or more such hills within 500 metres of each other. These rules aim to save the world’s oldest mountain range from further harm.
