On the third day of their protest, over 1,000 secondary-grade teachers were removed by police in Chennai. The teachers gathered at the Collectorate in George Town, demanding equal pay for equal work. Teachers appointed before June 1, 2009, get a basic pay of ₹8,370, while those hired later get ₹5,200. Currently, their monthly salary is ₹20,600. "The protests will continue until our demand is met. We have waited long enough, but only talks have taken place. We want it resolved," said a teacher from Thanjavur. The teachers noted that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin supported their cause in 2018 as Leader of Opposition. They accused the government of ignoring the issue now. "The DMK had promised in its poll manifesto to rectify the pay anomaly that began during its tenure in 2009. We want it fulfilled," said a teacher from Theni. Police removed and detained the teachers in various city halls to disperse the protest.
