Indian-Origin Electrician in Sydney Sentenced to 5 Years for Raping 75-Year-Old Woman
December 29, 2025
Forty-five-year-old Amol Vijay Dhumal, an Indian-origin electrician in Sydney, has been sentenced to five years in prison for raping a 75-year-old woman in her home. The crime took place during a solar panel installation job in April 2024. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that a jury found Dhumal guilty of sexual intercourse without consent in September.
Dhumal was one of three subcontractors who visited the woman’s home on April 22, 2024, to install solar panels. After finishing his work, he asked the woman about her living situation. When told she lived alone, he hugged and tried to kiss her, saying she reminded him of his mother. The woman asked him to leave.
However, Dhumal returned two days later to fix a power issue. He asked if her children visited often and then said his wife never had sex with him. He then grabbed the woman and raped her in her room, causing injuries.
The woman described her life after the attack at court, saying, “I’m in prison in my own home.” She stated she has stopped all volunteer work and now locks all windows and doors, living in fear. She called Dhumal “that very evil person who has a very evil mind, evil heart, an evil and filthy mouth and his evil action that has inflicted this horrendous in my life.”
Dhumal’s wife, Gauri, came to court for his sentencing hearing. She said, “My husband is loving and respectful,” but declined to discuss the case.
After the assault, Dhumal told authorities the woman made up the story because he did not answer her phone call. The jury rejected his claim and convicted him.
