India's new greenfield Navi Mumbai Airport (NMI) will be connected to Tamil Nadu starting December 29, 2025. Airline Indigo will launch direct, daily flights from Chennai and Coimbatore to NMI. An aviation source said the flights will use 186-seat Airbus A320 planes with all economy seating. These services will run during the first phase of NMI's operational hours, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Full, 24-hour operations are planned for February 2026. The source noted, "Mumbai is operationally challenging given the high volume of air traffic, and the new flights to NMI will offer the air passenger more choice." Currently, Indigo operates nine daily flights from Chennai and three from Coimbatore to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Mumbai is a competitive market for Indigo, which faces Air India there. Indigo will be the first airline to fly directly to NMI from Tamil Nadu. The Chennai to NMI flight (6E 898/899) will depart Chennai at 6:10 a.m. and return from NMI at 7:40 p.m. Coimbatore flights will be 6E 860, leaving NMI at 9 a.m. and arriving in Coimbatore at 10:45 a.m., and 6E 861, departing Coimbatore at 11:15 a.m.
