Delhi Govt Delays Ex-Gratia Payment to Red Fort Blast Victims and Families
December 28, 2025
More than a month after the Red Fort blast, many victims and their families have yet to receive the compensation promised by the Delhi government. The government had announced an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh for families of those killed, ₹5 lakh for victims with permanent disability, ₹2 lakh for serious injuries, and ₹20,000 for minor injuries. However, several affected people say they have not received any money. Among the dead was Nouman Ansari, 18, the sole earner in his family from Shamli, UP. His uncle Mahboob Ansari said, "After we submitted all documents with the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Delhi, we were asked to wait. Then we were told the SDM will be transferred. We have not received anything so far." Another family, of priest Vinay Pathak who died in the blast, also said despite submitting documents, no compensation came. Victim Saina Parveen, 23, who had temporary hearing loss, was fired from her job after the blast despite medical treatment. She said, "I received just one call asking for documents. After that, no communication." Taxi driver Bhawani Shankar Sharma, who suffered serious head injuries, said officials refused to accept his documents. His taxi was destroyed, and insurance paid ₹14,000, his only financial assistance so far. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) did not respond to questions on the delay. A CMO source said 11 victims have been paid, but the police are yet to confirm the rest as genuine victims due to possible links with accused persons.
