Nine residents of Pilibhit, trapped in Kyrgyzstan for about three months after falling victim to a job scam, returned home safely on December 28, 2025. The remaining three men are expected to come back by December 30 as their visas expire on December 31. Pilibhit District Magistrate, Gyanendra Singh, told PTI that the return process for the last three workers was almost done. He also urged everyone to be careful against fraudsters. All 12 men belong to areas under Barkhera, Puranpur, Diyoria, and Gajraula police stations. They were promised jobs abroad by the owner of a recruiting agency in Pilibhit city. Each paid Rs 2.5 lakh to the agent for travel and job arrangements that never existed. The scam came to light after a video surfaced on December 5 showing Rohit, one of the trapped men, describing their plight. Following this, families contacted authorities for help. The men - Ravi Kumar, Ajay, Chandrapal, Santram, Rohit, Ramesh, Harswaroop, Shyamacharan, Sanjeev, Prempal, Ramasare, and Harishankar - were sent on 59-day visas with fake contracts. Once in Kyrgyzstan, they found no promised jobs. Instead, they were forced to work without pay under harsh conditions and reported beatings. They shared their ordeal via social media and called on the Indian government for help. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav has assigned the case to the Circle Officer of the city for investigation. Union Minister Jitin Prasada met the victims' families in Delhi and contacted the Indian Embassy to assist their return. Farmer leader Dev Swaroop Patel met the returning workers in Bareilly. He said tickets for Harishankar, Ramasare, and Shyamacharan have not yet been arranged. Joy and relief greeted families when the men returned. They urged Pilibhit MP Prasada to take strict action against those who cheated them and to help recover their money.
