Yercaud, a favorite hill station for weekend tourists, is facing a problem with broken street lights. Most lights have not worked for the past year. Residents say the street lights in key places are off, making it unsafe for locals and visitors. "We have raised this issue with the local panchayat officials, but they blame the Tangedco," said N. Gnanavel, a Tiprari Road resident. He added, "Eight months ago, the issue was fixed, but the lights stopped working again after a week." Tourists worry about safety, as wild Indian gaurs roam the area. Mr. Gnanavel shared, "Three months ago, a motorcycle rider hit a gaur and got injured." He stressed the need for quick action to ensure safety. V. Periyasamy, another resident, noted that popular spots like Anna Park and the Roundabout had street lights before, but now are dark. "New visitors find it hard to travel through these poorly lit areas," he said. Officials from the Yercaud Block Development Office said the faulty street lights will be repaired within a week. This fix comes as more tourists visit due to school holidays across the state.
