December 27, 2025
In 2025, The Hindu’s cartoonists Mika Aziz, Soumyadip Sinha, Vasini Varadan, and Irfan Khan produced sharp cartoons on major events. One cartoon on May 7 depicted India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April, where 26 civilians were killed. India held Pakistan responsible for backing terrorist groups like The Resistance Front and Lashkar-e-Taiba and briefed the United Nations Security Council about it. Following this, India launched Operation Sindoor against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
On October 1, a cartoon showed U.S. President Donald Trump’s strong push for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025. Mr. Trump often claimed credit for ending conflicts worldwide, including those between Israel and Iran, India and Pakistan, and Thailand and Cambodia.
August 16’s cartoon highlighted controversy after the Delhi Police called Bengali the “Bangladeshi language.” BJP IT wing head Amit Malviya defended the police, igniting more debate. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the claim, reminding the nation that the National Anthem and National Song are written in Bengali.
On October 2, a cartoon contrasted Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals with the reality of India in 2025 during his birth anniversary.
October 23’s cartoon focused on Mamata Banerjee again after she advised women hostel students not to go out at night amidst rising concerns over women’s safety in West Bengal following the Durgapur rape case. This sparked backlash and highlighted turmoil in the Trinamool government.
The June 14 cartoon covered Israel’s airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites backed by Donald Trump. Mr. Trump urged Iran to negotiate on its nuclear program soon after.
A September 1 cartoon showed India-China talks aiming to improve trade and solve border issues fairly amid rising U.S. tariffs affecting both nations.
On April 23, The Hindu illustrated India’s delayed official reaction to the Pahalgam attack and its subsequent diplomatic and military moves.
March 8’s cartoon critiqued India’s fragile economy, symbolizing the weak bull market and a recession, despite elite optimism.
June 30’s cartoon addressed a heated debate sparked by Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s Dattatreya Hosabale calling for reviewing words like ‘secularism’ and ‘socialism’ in India’s Constitution.
These cartoons offered a vivid snapshot of 2025’s biggest events with wit and insight.
