On Friday, a 29-year-old woman named Muktabai was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws in Aland taluk, Kalaburagi district. The family accused her of being possessed by an evil spirit. Muktabai, originally from Aland town, was married to a man from Maharashtra. A few days before the incident, she collapsed at her home due to health issues including high blood pressure. Muktabai’s parents said that instead of taking her to a doctor, her in-laws, including her brother-in-law and mother-in-law, claimed she was possessed and forced her to undergo a violent ritual to remove the spirit. She was assaulted with a wooden club, suffering severe injuries. Muktabai was taken to a hospital but died during treatment. Her mother accused the in-laws of taking her to Ganagapur village in Afzalpur taluk and attacking her in superstition rituals. She demanded strong action against everyone involved in this crime.
