APCPDCL Restores Power to Andhra Pradesh Temple After ₹3.08 Crore Bill Dispute
December 27, 2025
The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) stopped power supply to the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam temple due to unpaid bills totalling ₹3.08 crore. The temple management had not cleared the bills since February 2023 despite repeated reminders. This led to a shutdown of power from the high-tension line. After discussions held on Saturday, power supply in and around the temple was restored. Temple Executive Officer Seena Nayak confirmed, "Supply has been restored in and around the temple premises." The temple runs a solar plant at Apparao Peta near Pamula Kaluva which supplies 24 MW of electricity daily to the Andhra Pradesh grid free of cost for two years. In exchange, the Electricity Department provided free power to 10 key temple services. Recently, the department demanded payment for these services, sparking the dispute. To respect devotees' sentiments, temple authorities used backup generators to keep essential services powered during the outage. After talks between temple officials and APCPDCL, the power supply was fully restored.
