December 26, 2025
Sabarimala Ayyappa temple is all set for the Mandala puja on Saturday. The ceremony times are from 10.10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. On Friday, the deity Ayyappa was adorned with a golden attire called Thanka Anki. The Thanka Anki was carried to the temple in a traditional chariot procession. This started from the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple on December 23.
The procession moved on Friday from Perunadu Sastha temple, passing Laha Satra, Plappally, Nilackal temple, and Chalakayam. It reached Pampa in the afternoon, where Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan welcomed it. After a brief stop, it proceeded to Saramkuthi. By 5 p.m., the Thanka Anki arrived at the temple's Sannidhanam.
The golden attire was placed on the idol after customs and rituals. The Tantri and Melshanthi formally received it at the 18 sacred steps. This was followed by Deeparadhana, witnessed by Travancore Devaswom Board president K. Jayakumar and Additional Director General of Police S. Sreejith among others.
The Thanka Anki was given by the Maharaja of the former Travancore kingdom several years ago. The event brings grand devotion and colorful tradition to the temple as devotees prepare for the Mandala puja.
